White Christmas at Fort Marcinko (Sort Of)

This was the first white Christmas ive ever seen in Texas, such as it was. Barely any of it stuck, and it was all gone by the afternoon -- but it was a sight. . .Light dusting on the front bushes, about a quarter of an inch deep drift. . .. . .barely stuck to the front yard grass. With the sun, it all melted fast. . .. . . pretty much all that stayed, was what was directly in the shadows. . .. .. . . [ more here ]

I was on a business trip in San Francisco this week. Twelve hour days nearly every day until the last kept me from exploring as much as i wanted. . . but when i could, i definately did. I was able to get over the Alcatraz and explore before my flight left. Somewhat expensive, but worth the money. NPS gives all visitors recorded self guided tour headsets to tell the story as they roam. Many of the voices are those of prisoners and guards from back in the day. My only regrets on this stop is that i didnt have more time -- and only had the one camera battery.View of Alcatraz Island. . . [ more here ]


SFO2005 -- Exploratorium at Night

The Exploratorium is a public science museum, located in the Marina District. Aparently its one of the areas most popular attractions, though i only had time to see it glow at night as i took these photos. The Gold Dome of the Exploratorium all lit up. . .. . .with the Palace of Fine Arts to the right -- both reflecting in the water. . .. . .and to the left. this side was surrounded by a chain. . . Treasure Island gives the best eastern view of the city, especially when the fog glows with the buidings. . .The night skyline against the fog. . . and the Bay Bridge to the left. . .and PacBell Park lit up underneith of it. . .. . .a closer view of just the downtown skycrapers. . .. . .and even closer. . .. . . the hill on the right is Telegraph Hill with Coit Tower on top.All SAN FRANCISCO2005. . . SFO2005 -- Fog Covered Golden Gate Bridge

A few photos of the Golden Gate Bridge through a fog bank. At some places, I could see sun all the way to the water. Others, pure fog. Ive never been anywhere where the fog bank border was so well distinguishable. Very peaceful. Traffic going around the corner onto the fog covered bridge in the afternoon. . .. . .a closer view of the fog rolling over the Marin Highlands onto the bridge. . .. . .. . . [ more here ]

While waiting for the ferry to Alcatraz, i took a few pics of the Fishermans Wharf area. View of Fishermans Wharf docks from the Alcatraz Ferry docks. Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower are on the left. Some random things i came across as i explored the shorline of San Francisco Bay. . .With a fog bank rolling by, a marina on San Francisco Bay below Vista Point. . .. . .a ferry in the distance. . .. . .a grainy pic of the bay from the marina.
